Dentures are removable appliances that can be used as a replacement for teeth. They are more commonly used for patients who are experiencing tooth and bone loss from age. Unlike dental implants, dentures cannot be made for just one tooth. They are made to replace several missing teeth or all missing teeth! If you’re interested in getting dentures, talk to your dentist about what options are best for you.
Today’s dentures are made from realistic-looking materials and we will work with you to ensure they fit you properly. Whether you are missing all of your teeth or missing several, we can fit you with a complete set, partial fixed, or removable dentures.

3 Main Types of Dentures
Dentures are removable appliances that emulate the appearance and function of real teeth. They are a quick, convenient solution for those who are missing teeth. There are three main types that are generally used:
- Conventional Dentures: These full set dentures are completely removable and they sit on top of the gums a few months after the gums are healed from any tooth extractions.
- Partial Dentures: When a few teeth remain in the mouth but the patient does not want them removed, partial dentures are a great option. Like traditional/conventional dentures, partial ones are fully removable.
- Overdenture: These dentures sit on top of the gums and are held in place by implants. They can also be fit over natural teeth to preserve the jawbone.
At New Generation Dentistry, we understand that every patient has a unique situation. We will carefully evaluate your needs based on the type of lifestyle you lead, financial situation, and which type of dentures will work best for you. Eat the foods you enjoy. Go to social gatherings without embarrassment and show off your beautiful smile.
Whether you choose to get dental implants to stabilize your dentures is up to you! Talk to your dentist to see if you’re a good candidate for dental implants with dentures.
Denture Care
Like teeth, dentures require great dental care to maintain their function and appearance. It’s important to continue brushing your remaining teeth, dentures, tongue, and mouth to avoid bad breath, plaque buildup, and gum disease.
Removable dentures are similar to retainers in the way they are cared for. It’s important to scrub the clean of bacteria and food debris every day after wearing them all day. By using a soft brush and some water, you can help make sure your retainers look great with a quick but thorough cleaning (no toothpaste needed!). There are also lots of denture cleaners you can use to soak your dentures on busy days to keep them clean and bright. With good care, most dentures can last upwards of five years.
Patients often report that dentures feel a little uncomfortable at first, but they are usually able to adapt to their new dental appliances quickly. Dentures should be custom fitted to your mouth, so they should look and feel almost exactly like your natural smile!
Dentures are not only for aesthetic purposes, they are also beneficial to your good health and well-being. Book an appointment today and let us evaluate your needs, and we guarantee you will walk out of our office a much happier person!
